Hawk Hall

The University of Hartford’s rich history can be traced back to the late 19th century when city residents founded the Hartford Society of Decorative Art. That organization would later become known as the Hartford Art School, one of three founding colleges incorporated into the University of Hartford in 1957. Today, Hartford attracts more than 7,000 graduate and undergraduate students. Continuous and consistent growth has lead to an aggressive and exciting effort to revitalize the university housing system, resulting in campus-wide renovations and the design of a new 210-bed undergraduate residence hall. DiMella Shaffer, in association with Cutler Associates, met the challenge set forth by the University–to meet the housing needs of today while encouraging and preparing for the growth of the larger community and campus plan. The new dormitory program consists of traditional double rooms and floor lounges, as well as flexible common spaces to serve the larger residential precinct.
