Massachusetts Firefighting Academy

To accommodate Massachusetts’ growing firefighting training, investigative, and emergency response program, DiMella Shaffer designed a new campus master plan, including three new buildings (administration, fire station, and storage) and renovations to an existing academy building, totaling over 115,000 SF.  Numerous sustainable design strategies were incorporated into this project, leading to the preservation of natural landscape features and trees and reduction of water and energy consumption. Other features include the treatment of wastewater on site, reclamation of on-site generated energy, and minimization of hardscape surfaces.
