Riverway House

Wheelock College

The Riverway house was a 1930s era apartment building converted to a residence hall in the 1960s. This project involved a complete rehabilitation of the existing building and the addition of two infill areas to expand the bed count capacity from 100 to 130. The building was made fully accessible by pushing down to grade a large entrance lobby and lounge, and by adding a new double-sided elevator to navigate the various floor levels. The infilled areas are clad with cast stone, providing a welcome contrast to the brick exterior and maintaining the visual rhythm of the existing façade.
