Center for Life Sciences
A flagship project for the New Center of Life Sciences at Holyoke Community College, the goal of this initiative was to increase enrollment in life sciences and strengthen the college’s connection to local industries. The design team began working with the college to develop a master plan for the Center for Life Sciences, which included a full renovation of Marieb Hall, a 6,500 SF renovation project. The program included two teaching labs and support space, a cleanroom, a classroom, and places for students to do group work between classes. The new labs will create better learning environments tailored to small group projects. The cleanroom will allow the students to learn essential skills applicable to the biotech industry. Accessibility is an essential component of the project, and the new labs will enable disabled students to participate in lab work from all workstations fully. The project will also include accessible upgrades to some of the bathrooms, drinking fountains, and building entry.
